Stages of Oral Implantology

The process of Oral Implantology goes through several stages that, together, allow the success of the process. Thus, dividing into four phases we will have the evaluation and planning processes, the oral surgery for placement of your dental implant, the prosthetic rehabilitation process and the maintenance process.

1 - Clinical Evaluation

The first stage involves clinical evaluation and radiological examinations, in order to guarantee the correct performance during the surgical intervention. Pathologies that may interfere with treatment are identified, as well as their oral health status, through teeth, gums and bone structure.

With the equipment present at Clínica Médica São João, computerized tomographic exams are performed and integrated with the advanced 3D TAC software, which will guide the work to be done through the surgical and prosthetic steps. Molds are made, if necessary, and temporary prostheses to replace the definitive teeth while they are produced.

You will be presented with all the possibilities of treatment to allow a more informed and conscious decision, allowing you to meet your expectations and help improve your quality of life.

2 - Oral Surgery

The second stage of the process of Oral Implantology is the surgical intervention, which guarantees the greatest possible comfort with the application of local anesthesia in its own surgical block. In the case of the lack of sufficient bone to support the placement of implants, the technique of insertion of bio bone, a previous bone graft that allows the support of implants, may be applied.

Whether or not this insertion is necessary, minimally invasive, high-precision surgical techniques are always used to ensure insertion of the titanium implant into the mandibular or maxillary structure.

After removal of the stitches, about 10 days later, the healing process takes about 3 months. In case of insertion of bio bone this process can take up to 7 months, however, the evaluation phase will be precise to the point of leaving it clear and will be constantly monitored by our professionals.

3 - Prosthetic rehabilitation

The third phase of the process of Oral Implantology involves prosthetic rehabilitation.

The definitive rehabilitation is completed when bone healing is complete around the implants and it is at this stage that our laboratory, in tune with the CEREC CAD / CAM systems, draws and confers the definitive teeth on a high resilience ceramic, whether crown or bridge.

This process may require the carrying out of several tests, due to their need for rigor, in order to guarantee the best results and their maximum satisfaction.

4 - Maintenance

The last stage of the process is intrinsically linked to oral hygiene care, so it is necessary to organize and maintain a periodic maintenance visit program at your dentist. Oral hygiene is fundamental to a successful rehabilitation process.
